Carbs Why Do You Tempt Me So?

I am so much more disciplined with my eating habits when the warm weather is upon us.  But, once the air turns a bit chilly, and in my case wet from Pacific Northwest "liquid sunshine", my cravings for salads seem to subside and all I want is pasta and bread.  Oh, and cookies.  Oh, and chips and dip.  Oh, well, you know.  These foods don't do well for your body, if you're trying to maintain a healthy weight, so I'm looking for alternatives.

I make a lot of sandwiches in the week for my girl's school lunches so I'm going in a different direction from the typical sandwich and giving wraps a try.  I've found a great resource for low carb foods online at The Low Carb Grocery.  It offers a full selection of foods low in carb count, which would otherwise be on the heavy side.  So far the wraps are a hit with my girl's, and that makes my shopping that much easier.

I can not believe the difference in my body shape when I cut out high carb foods.  And my energy level is higher as well.  Now, I won't be one to pass up fresh baked bread, but I am getting myself back on track and keeping my carb intake low.

How about you?  Do you have a love-and-pass-me-the-butter fondness? Or, do you try to avoid carbohydrates?

  2. You are not alone in this temptation! I have always thought that I could probably live on freshly baked bread with real butter, or baked potatoes with butter and sour cream. It is a real challenge to limit carbohydrates every day, as a diabetic. And carbs are in everything, I have learned. Now, I am trying to eat more organic fresh fruits and vegetables, increase my protein intake with greek yogurt, kefir, protein shakes, and limit myself to an "unhealthy" (yes-fattening, but yummy!) to every now and again. I too feel better when I follow my healthy eating goals. Thanks!

    1. You're welcome Kimberly. You had me going with the baked potatoes w/ butter and sour cream! But you brought me back to sanity with kefir, I love that drink! I need to have more of that in the 'fridge, I'm sure my girls would like it.

  3. I can so relate. It is much much easier to control carbs and food in general when it is warm out. Each year I have to shed my "Winter Weight" before Summer. Haha! =)

    1. I get into that silly cycle of shedding the "Winter Weight". Why don't I just maintain through out the year? Well, that's a goal from now on :->

  4. I think if i put my mind to it I could stay on a more healthier path, I just choose not to. I know its so foolish and I'm by no means skinny, and I definitely need to lose weight. I think I am going to give the wraps thing a try. Also I love hummus and there is a little restaurant right around the corner from here that has the best wraps. I know exactly how they make it too.
    Lean Chicken cut thinly
lettuce or any greens you like
hummus (whichever flavor you like best)
fresh lemon juice squeezed over meat of each
    wrap
    cucumbers cut thinly
put everything together and its a great healthy wrap and I absolutely love it!!

    1. Oh, thank you Amanda! I'm going to make this wrap today! I've been using low fat cream cheese and have been thinking of what else to use as a "base" on our wraps. Hummus! Of course. Thanks for the recipe :->
